With his traditional birth name being, Rey Paul Rodriguez Rodriguez, a friend gave him the moniker "Rey Rey" so he would have two matching first names to match his two identical last names. After this friend passed away, Rodriguez embraced the moniker.<ref name="The Hype Magazine 2015"/> In Puerto Rico, the Rodriguez family moved frequently, it wasn't until he attended Miramar High School that he found his penchant for poetry and photography soon followed.<ref name="The Hype Magazine 2015"/> Rodriguez holds several undergraduate degrees, two Associate degrees, Emergency Medical Technology (EMT Paramedic) and Nursing Education. His Bachelor's degree is in Multimedia from Florida Atlantic University in 2012.<ref name="college dates"/>
Rodriguez describes his early interests in film, books and poetry to be primarily related to combat sports.<ref name="Voyage MIA Magazine 2018"/> His earliest creative outlet was poetry and hip-hop until he was asked to take a group-photo and handed a film camera. The camera viewfinder and the ability to position his subjects gave him began his creative interest in film.<ref name="The Hype Magazine 2015"/> Rodriguez' early film works have been described as dark, dramatic, counterculture and taboo.<ref name="Loaded 2016"/> His training in mixed martial arts (Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu) widened his portfolio to include celebrity photography,<ref name="The MMA Corner 2016"/> bringing him full-circle back to his childhood interests.<ref name="Voyage MIA Magazine 2018"/>
